Aeolosoma tenebrarum

Vejdovsky, 1884b

Description
Small worms. Prostomium slightly triangular, fused with I, considerably broader than subsequent segments. Ventral ciliated field with small triangular latero-dorsal extensions. Sensory pits lateral, large, probably connected with ventral field. Cutaneous glands yellow to olive green, globular, with satellite cell. 0-6(7) curved hair chaetae of different lengths (110-200 and 50-105 µm) per bundle; also 1-2 slightly shorter (50-60 µm) sigmoid chaetae with two or more small distal teeth, beginning from midbody, sometimes restricted to ventral bundles. Hair chaetae lacking in posterior ventral bundles. Length of a chain of 3-5 zooids 2-10 mm, width 0.12-0.20 mm. Segment number of the first zooid usually 8-10, seldom up to 13. Differing from the most similar species, Aeolosoma sawayai, in larger size and segment number, as well as in relatively large prostomium.
