Stylodrilus lemani

Description
Medium-sized pink worms. Prostomium conical. External secondary annulation beginning from V. Chaetae two per bundle, sigmoid with nodulus, simple-pointed. Male pores in X, spermathecal pores in IX. Clitellum in 1/2 IX-XIII(XIV). Postclitellar lateral vessels, two pairs per segment, with numerous long, irregular blind appendages. Length 25-40 mm, segment number 50-65. Differing from Stylodrilus absoloni in more abundant and more branched posterior lateral vessels, from the other congeners known from NWE, in simple-pointed chaetae, and from the species of Trichodrilus with similar simple chaetae, in the position of spermathecae before male pores, in IX.
Burrowing in sediment.

Distribution
Europe.

Ecology
In freshwater, characteristic of clean oxygen-rich habitats.

Reproduction
Sexual only. Eggs laid in cocoons.
