Description
Medium-sized earthworms. Body unpigmented. Chaetae closely paired. Clitellum very long, from XXII (seldom XXI) to XXXIII or XXXIV. Tubercula pubertatis from 1/2 XXIX to XXXII or 1/2 XXXII. Male pores in XV with large glandular pads. Length 28-135 mm, body diameter 3-5 mm, segment number 102-175. Externally characterized by long, anteriorly positioned clitellum, like in Helodrilus oculatus, but is thicker and devoid of any dark spots on body.
Burrowing in soil and sediment.

Distribution
Southern Europe, the Caucasus, Near East.

Ecology
In freshwater and wet soil.

Reproduction
Sexual only. Eggs laid in cocoons.
