Description
Small to medium-sized tubificids either with smooth body, or armoured with sticky transversal furrows or small secretory papillae. Hair and pectinate chaetae present dorsally, bifid crotchets ventrally; spermathecal and penial chaetae present, of similar shape. Differing from most other tubificid genera, besides the anatomy of reproductive system, in presence of similar spermathecal and penial chaetae.
Burrowing in sediment.

Distribution
Palaearctic, eastern North America.

Ecology
In freshwater.

Reproduction
Sexual only. Eggs laid in cocoons.
