Tubifex smirnowi

Lastockin, 1927

Description
Small smooth, pink worms with extended segments. Dorsal bundles on forebody with 1-2 hair chaetae, 121-370 µm long, and 1-4 pectinate chaetae, 33-63 µm. Pectinates with teeth of equal length, and with 1-3 intermediate denticles. In anterior ventral bundles 2-6 chaetae, 35-56 µm long, with upper tooth shorter like in posterior crotchets. No modified genital chaetae. Clitellum relatively long, in X-XII. Length 7-12 mm, segment number 35-65. Differing from most other tubificids with dorsal hair and pectinate chaetae, in having slightly shorter upper tooth in ventral crotchets. Thin tail with extended segments is somewhat similar to that of Tubifex ignotus but devoid of any long hair chaetae characteristic of the latter.
