Description
Small polychaetes with few segments. Prostomium with paired palps, nuchal organs and up to three antennae. Ventral eversible pharynx either with four jaws or unarmed. Uniramous parapodia with hair chaetae or composite chaetae in a single fascicle. Parapodial cirri usually present.

Distribution
Cosmopolitan.

Ecology
Mainly marine, many species in interstitial water, one in fresh groundwater.

Reproduction
Sexual.
