Description
Smooth or papillate worms, with or without hair chaetae, with bifid or partially simple crotchets. Distinguishable from the other Tubificinae by the anatomy of male duct (vas deferens opening into atrium subapically and opposite to prostate gland; blind cap-like ental end histologically different from the main part of atrium).
Burrowing in sediment.
Distribution
Cosmopolitan.
Ecology
In marine and brackish water.
Reproduction
Sexual only. Eggs laid in cocoons.
