Type genus Stylaria Lamarck, 1816. Erected by Nemec and Brinkhurst, 1987, including the genera Stylaria, Arcteonais, Ripistes, Vejdovskyella, Slavina, and possibly also Stephensoniana and Piguetiella.
Number of species about 25. In fresh waters of NWE, six genera with eight species:

Slavina appendiculata (D'Udekem, 1855)
Stylaria lacustris (Linnaeus, 1767)

Description
Naididae with prostate tissue on atria. Needle chaetae without nodulus. Proboscis and eyes present in several genera. In mature individuals, male pores in VI. Five anterior segments developing in the budding zone.

Distribution
Cosmopolitan.

Ecology
In freshwater. Feeding on detritus or unicellular algae.

Reproduction
Mostly asexual, by paratomy (budding). Five anterior segments developing in the budding zone. Maturing and sexual reproduction rare or seasonal.
